State Specific Question About: MISSOURI (MO)

Hi, I'm looking for a way to remove cat urine odor. It has seeped along a wall, into the subfloor and gotten into the cold air return for an ajoining aprtment. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks --69.76.xxx.xx

That Can be a tough job. You could seal all affected wood with oil based Kilz or BIN primer/sealer. Then have a professional Duct cleaning company clean the duct work. Then Never allow another Cat in your rental. Sometimes you have to just start replacing things to get rid of the odor. --70.246.xxx.xxx

I would replace anything the urine has soaked into, then do as Reid said. Cat urine is really hard to get rid of. Don't ever allow pets in that unit again. They will smell it still. --75.166.xxx.xxx

Do the apartments have separate heaters? If not then the odor is just being pulled back into the system by either cold air return because they pull the air near the floor.

Because there is an adjoining wall right there, the smell is probably in the other apartment just due to proximity.

That is really bad when it seeps in like that. I had to paint floors with Kilz to get the smell to quit. One living room I put down new luan and tiled over it before I could put carpet down.

You might try pouring a urine remover down over the same spot and hopefully it will follow the same path and dissolve it. --76.99.xxx.xx

Unfortunately, it is easier and cheaper to cut out and replace the baseboard and subfloor sections than to deodorize. Same with the boot and duct.

Use OdorXIt to spray the remaining duct that carried the fumes.

Kilz helps but urine odor will soak thru Kilz.

Also remember the wall paint has already absorbed the odor. Wash, seal, and repaint. --69.243.xxx.xx
