In my state it varies by city.
3 yrs ago, the Building Inspector dept suddenly decided that EVERY apartment unit must have a 2nd egress door leading to a stairway. When we appealed to the state, the city was overruled. But, in the meantime, dozens of landlords installed exterior stairways from each apartment = very costly.
So, stroll down to your Fire Dept/Inspection Dept. You obviously don't want to identify yourself just in case you are currently "not in compliance". --199.46.xxx.xxx |
