State Specific Question About: VIRGINIA (VA)
I had a tentant move in a month ago and she said the house has bedbugs. I have lived there previous for 7 years and had no problem. How do I handle costly treatment -if it turns out that is what they are? She found 5 or more in the living room?

I would handole it by telling them which pest control company to call and reminding them that per their rental agreemeent they are responsible for all costs involved --70.246.xxx.xxx |

I would instruct the tenant to catch one so you can see it first hand. It may be a common harmless bug instead of a bedbug. If you can confirm it is a bedbug, call an exterminator and bill the tenant. If you rely on a tenant to call that can barely make rent, I highly doubt a call will be made.

If she REALLY has bedbugs, SHE brought them in.
I suspect it's a scam to avoid paying January rent.
Strange that this has just come up prior to rent being due.
Good luck with this.

Aren't bedbugs too small to see with the naked eye? --66.228.xx.xxx |

You can see them. They are dark red and are about the size of the head of a pin.
Unfortunately, many moving vans are infested with them now. Or the van carries furniture from multiple households and the bugs jump onto new territory.
Check your local law. Some require landlord pay for the exterminator. --67.150.xx.xxx |

Ask her to remove her pets at her own expense. --99.147.xx.xxx |
