Smoke thank you for the tip on using Formica on the ceiling in a bathroom with the peeling paint. It looks great! We did have problems with the contact cement holding. Did buy the same product at a different store and the second batch was thicker and better. On this ceiling we tried the 2 coat on both surfaces let it dry and slap it up there as directed on the can. Didn't hold. So we secured with screws and used caulk to complete the install. Second batch of contact cement may have held tho.

Nice job! That looks like the stuff I made a shower surround out of. Is that stuff thick and may be made from a fiberglass composite?

I used liquid nails construction adhesive and used a nothced trowel (as per instructions) and it stuch to fresh green drywall w/o any problems. 6 years latter and it looks like new.

Yes it is thick and could easily be used for a tub/shower surround. It's the look I wanted for the ceiling. Worked great for me.

It's a 9' x 5' bathroom ceiling. I should have bought three 4' x 8' sheets instead of only 2. Would of made a better looking install.

For your shower surround John did you use the white plastic panel connection moldings? Or just caulk them up?

Josh, I used 4'x8' sheets and had no butt seems except in the corners (I also did the ceiling too and have a shower light. I applied a nice smooth bead of bright white silicon rubber at the corners. Worked excellent and was the look I wanted (nice texture, tough, and easy to clean).

Where did you buy the formica and how much did it cost?

Perhaps shower surround adhesive would have worked better than contact cement. I think contact cement requires a really smooth surface on both sides. Having said that, I'll probably try contact cement if I do this. I've heard that there are varying qualities of contact cement. Not sure where to get the good stuff.

Josh, I was in Long Beach 2 months ago, sorry I didn't get a chance to meet you.

At home depot it was $30 something a 4'x8' sheet. I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to meet you RR. I didn't pick up the email until after you had come and gone.

Well, like I said a day or two ago - shoot! The post was about a week too late for my DH, who had by that time scraped off most of the peeling paint on our approx. 5' x 10' ceiling in the bathroom at home. The look is terrific, congrats. I'm NOT telling the DH, he'll mope around - will wait until the rental starts to look lousy, and say I recently heard about the idea ;>) --71.185.xxx.xx
