A local Lowes has old appliances sitting outside, these are appliances that are hauled away by Lowes when a customer buys a new appliance.
I asked some lady employee in the store if I could have some of those old appliances. Her response baffled me, just didn't make any sense. "Sorry sir, we can't give those away because we PAY a company to come get them" huh? I will take them for free, or even give you a few bucks. Most of these appliances probably would work fine for a rental. Anyway, she did not seem to understand the poor logic she was using.
Do you have a local retailer that gives you their old appliances? --98.247.xx.xxx |

My freind who also was a landlord had a delivery contract for appliances and he could not get his hands on any of the used stuff, I even asked him to for me but he couldn't. --74.99.xxx.xxx |

me thinks the delivery guy has a cousin that owns a used appliance shop, just like we have cousins who paint and clean or properties, if not it would be a shame to throw away all that freon and good t-stats and capacitors and Oh I can not store another one can I? Let me see if I wiggle this one over and yes, one more piece of junk in the barn - ha. --99.128.xx.xxx |

They get paid for the scrap metal value. Someone gets to pocket the money. Once I was able to get my hands on a double over/stove top unit -- I had to give "Someone" a big tip.... --173.58.xxx.x |

Our local Lowes sets the used appliances outside, in plain sight, right next to the storage trailer.
If they are still there 24 hours later, they get moved into the trailer.
Lowes official policy is "we cannot give away used appliances". Liability.
However, they do not prosecute for "theft" of same appliances. I have never personally taken one, but have observed many others loading them into cars or trucks.
Years ago the city was tearing down public housing. The bulldozers were already there, they would start the next morning. I asked if I could take anything and was told much the same. "We can't give you permission, but we aren't guarding this stuff, it will be in the landfill this time tomorrow." I got 4 kitchens full of cabinets and countertops, and a HUGE amount of slate walkways. I built a very nice patio and lined the entire garage with cabinets. --141.129.x.xx |

That was a response that basically explained that they have a destination and she can't interfere. As the others pointed out, it would not be a much of a crime if you took them.
The top executives would like to see fewer used appliances so to inevitably boost new sales.
If you are looking for a source, identify the Sears trucks that deliver. This is not a truck marked "Sears" but rather a very conspicuous contractor in a 24' box truck. Strike a deal with those guys because they have to collect the old ones. You are charged ten bucks to have the old one taken away, so they keep that charge. As for scrap value, metals have dropped in price so that is a wash. --173.66.x.xxx |

Post an ad on Craigslist say you'll haul off old appliances for $10 that'll pay your gas and you can probably get all you want. --69.148.xxx.xxx |
