State Specific Question About: ARIZONA (AZ)

How do I find out how many smoke detectors I am legally required to install in my 2 bedroom rental apartment. Do they have to be in certain locations?

If you don't have gas hooked up to the house are you required to install Co2 detectors? --98.165.xx.xxx

It's Not a C02 ( Carbon Dioxide) detector it,s a CO detector( Carbon Monoxide). And The directions on where to install them are on the package. Same for smoke detectors follow the directions on the package. Usually your local fire dept is more than happy to answer any questions on local regulations. --70.250.xxx.xxx

Here it is one on each floor including the basement. The ones located inside the apartment should be just outside the bedroom door. It's a cheap way to avoid a lawsuit and deaths in your building.

Steam from a shower can sometimes make them go off. Also some haircare products and a hot dryer will make it go off also. --76.99.xxx.xx

In my area it is one smoke detector in each bedroom, in the hall no more than 6 feet from the bedroom(s), in the basement and one at the top of each stairwell. As for CO detector, one in the basement however I also have one on each floor.

To be sure YOU meet your local codes, your local FD or inspecor can tell you.

Do you have a garage attached to the house? If so, install a CO detector. Do people BBQ with charcoal on a patio by the house? If so, install a CO detector. If someone dies from CO in your house from somebody's stupidity their family will look for someone to sue...don't let it be you. $30 for a CO detector is cheap insurance to CYA. --71.143.xxx.xxx

The smoke detector goes in or next to the sleeping room/s on the ceiling and never in the corner, to avoid the false alarms use the ionizer type near kitchen, bathroom or laundry room where steam can have an effect on the air density that will make a photo unit think it is smoky, co detectors goes on the wall mounted around 18-24 inches, if you have all electric the co could be burning food or bbq as mentioned. --99.147.xx.xxx
