Depends on why you are changing the lock. You can change a lockset yourself in a short time . Or as many do get all your places Keyed alike then it's just a matter of getting a new key. --70.250.xxx.xxx |

Many of us here use a master key system purchased through Ernie Riddle at landlordlocks.com, whichi we first learned about on this site. It makes it easy to change lock cylinders.
I ALWAYS change lock cylinders between tenants. And I don't bill the tenants for this. However, I do have a very significant penalty if all keys aren't returned when a tenant moves out. I do that not to avoid changing locks but to document that possession of the unit was returned to me. --85.68.xx.xxx |

I always change locks between tenants, but if the former tenant fails to return their keys, I add the re keying costs to the move out charges deducted from their deposit. --66.176.xxx.xxx |

I engrave all my cyls with a code that is the keybox space, if they change locks it cost them 25bux each to return all the doors to my mastered system - the way I sell it is if tenant gets locked out and calls for a spare I ask them the letter/number on the lock, then I go to the key box and send on of my kids over there to open the door and return with the key - if they have no code then I advise them to call a locksmith or break the window that will cost them the cheapest to fix cause I can not help them, this way I know without getting out a key if they have been fooling around with the place - most have never done it, get ernies locks and mark them before you put them on, and all the keys too, this way you move it in the toolbox for a year and always have the keys. --76.241.xxx.xx |

Locally, our judge will not allow a charge for changing a lock between tenants.
He assumes that every LL changes locks at turnover.
I DO charge when they have removed my locks and I must replace them. $40 each. --69.243.xxx.xx |

Forgot this - I hope you are not paying a locksmith between each tenant.
Ernie's locks are WAYYYYYYY cheaper than a locksmith. About $20, (I pay my helper $5 to install) then just swap out the clyinder. Takes literally just seconds with your master key. --69.243.xxx.xx |

Thanks for the info, yes, I have been paying 150 - 175.00 between each tenant. Never heard of Eenie's locks. But will google that. Many thanks! --68.226.xxx.xxx |
