Here in the Pacific Northwest we are coming out of a heat wave. Normally that means more than 3 days over 80F, but this time we have set new records - 103F in Seattle, 104F in Olympia. Both set yesterday. Today it dropped into the 90's. We should keep dropping - I hope.

The point is, most homes/apartments on the western side of Washington DO NOT have air conditioning. I was wondering, is A/C common for all of your rentals? I would assume so for the SW and lower plains states, but I could understand it not being used in some other parts of the US. --207.200.xxx.xx

In San Diego, the big corporate complexes have A/C, but the smaller indy-units never do. SFH's, regular houses from the last 100 years - no A/C. McMansions from the last 10, all have A/C.

Strangely... Heat follows the same pattern. :-)

Here some homes have central air conditioning while some of the tenants use small window air conditioners. Two of the apartment buildings have sleaves for a sleave type of air conditioner. This summer has been much cooler then last year where there was much more rain along with fewer hot days. Understand on the west coast there were extremely high temperatures where records were set. Even in places as far north as the Yukon there were high temperatures which set records. --74.220.xxx.xxx

Everyhome except a rare few, have some kind of A/C unit hanging out of a window.

About every ten years, or every sunspot cycle, we get temps over a hundred. Every year it will be over 90 for a least a week and there is a lot of humidity in my area due to the river being three blocks away and the ocean forty miles away. Air masses also cross the Chesapeake and Delaware Bays and pick up huge amounts of water.

There are no sunspots at this time according to the website spaceweather dot com so much more radiation coming in since sunspots are not only cooler on the face of the sun but they disrupt the streams of radiation from the sun.

The moon is the biggest offender when it comes to odd weather since it pulls air masses in all directions just like it pulls up the tides.

Not sure what's going on to make your weather so hot! --76.99.xxx.xx

Here in the sunbelt you could hardly rent a doghouse without an a/c.

Given a choice, I would do without heating but keep the a/c. --141.129.x.xx

You certainly need an AC here in the land of OZ . My grandparents didn't have AC and we didn't have it till I was about 5 . I don't know how people got along without it . --70.250.xxx.xxx

Most of my units have AC, but only b/c we buy over-improved properties where the "old" owner has died.

My own house (built by us 20 years ago) didn't have AC until about 5 years ago. Only used it once last year and haven't had it on at all this year. Our weather has been just perfect-temps in the 70's and plenty of rain to make the veggies grow.

On beach rental, hi rent - no a/c ... in San Gabriel Valley, gotta have a/c or it would never rent. --67.49.xxx.xxx

A/C wasn't a topic I think about a lot but this week it has been front and center in my thoughts. Especially on Wednesday when we set a new record and I was sitting outside (sorta shaded) during the hottest part of the day playing a concert. Drove home in my A/C'ed SUV and then peeled the wet shirt off me. --207.200.xxx.xxx

Neither our house nor our rentals have any A/C, but we're in a very mild coastal climate. When I lived in the midwest and midatlantic coast, A/C was a blessing. --70.143.xx.xxx
