If the only thing you did was walk on the carpet and set furniture on it, then no you can't be charged to replace it. If your dog/cat urinated on the carpet, or you spilled stuff on the carpet and let it stain, or you flicked cigarette ashes and let the carpet burn then you will be paying for new carpet. --98.227.xxx.xxx |

Is the carpet in the same condition as when you moved in?
Normal carpet life is 7 years, not 2. If the carpet must be replaced after only 2 years, yes, it comes out of your deposit. --141.129.x.xx |

You pay for what you damage.
Dirt and damage is NOT ordinary wear and tear. --65.55.xx.xxx |

Michelle, try a good, professional steam extraction cleaning company. They can do wonders with carpet. --69.243.xxx.xx |

If the smell is the trouble chances are it is the pad below the carpet, and maybe the floor will need some kind of repair to mask the smells, anything below the carpet is all tenant cost project, the wear-n-tear is on the surface, the damage is below. --76.241.xxx.xx |
