State Specific Question About: WASHINGTON (WA)

The renter is wanted by the police,havent seen him for a month , no eletric for a week posted abandoment notice and put there personal property in storage how long do we have to pay for storage ? and can sell off the stuff after we wait the proper time ? Does he for fit the deposit since he didnt pay rent or do I deduct charges from it? Thank You --71.59.xxx.xx

I don't know your state laws, but it is a good idea in general to always do a security deposit accounting within the applicable time frame. Even if the entire deposit is used to cover back rent and damages, you should give the accounting and mail it to the last known address -- often that is your own rental's address.

Thanks the 30 days and a week and a half of no eletric and tenant still on the run I have stored his stuff for 45 days and sent the next of kin a copy of the lease and all the notices and his total bill minus the deposit.Now I wait --71.59.xxx.xx

my son has paid his rent for the month of oct even though he has not been there the landlord went in there on 10/30 change the locks rerented the place and said she could keep his belongings because he abanded the property because he was gone for the month but his rent was paid that does not sound legal to me is it? --72.221.xxx.xxx
