State Specific Question About: IOWA (IA)
I have an 8-plex. Is it profitable to get "group" cable and increase the rents? Or is it better to let them on their own? --67.224.x.xxx |

I'd say it really depends on your local market. To stay competitive, must you offer cable? If no, then I would not do it. Cut expenses whereever possible and shift costs to the tenants.
Also, tenants may not want the cable service you offer, they may want an upgrade or dish or whatever, so you may not meet their needs anyway. --216.251.xxx.xxx |

No trouble getting tenants without it now. Just wondered if I could make a little profit on it or gain a competive advantage. Any ideas on cost? --67.224.x.xxx |

The problem with cable is that everybody wants something different. A tenant with a small child might want Sprout and Noggin, but the grandmother in the next unit has no use for those channels. The college student wants HBO, Showtime and Cinemax. Making it flexible so that it appeals to everybody would be a problem. --98.227.xxx.xxx |

Dish has a multi-unit program, both one where you offer everybody service, tenants order whatever they want and get a (small) discount, you get a (small) cut; and one where you give the same service to the whole building. The one where you pay for service for the whole building is CHEAP, something like 75% off of regular price. It is listed on their website.
Call the cable company with that info, DON'T call the number everybody calls, call the front office and ask about multi-unit sales. Bet you get a similar offer. --68.8.xxx.xxx |

There's also another issue not mentioned. High speed internet. Here there is a 3rd - phone service. So, getting whatever bundle considering those other options - how many possibilities exist ? Not worth the headache for me ...... --207.238.xxx.xxx |

If you live in the 8-plex. You can swing a deal that your cable TV, and internet are free. Which means you could hook up IP security camera/s and put it up on the WWW at no monthly cost to you.
