State Specific Question About: WASHINGTON (WA)

Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac

"In 2003, the Bush Administration attempted to create an agency to oversee Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. The bill never made progress in Congress, facing sharp opposition by Democrats. The proposition is said to have possibly prevented the subprime mortgage crisis.[58]. The Bush economic policy regarding Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac changed sharply during the economic downturn of 2008, culminating in the federal takeover of the two largest lenders in the mortgage market. This fiscal transaction is priced between $9,000,000,000,000.00 and $13,000,000,000,000.00 (9-13 trillion) when accounting for the size of the debt incurred by the Federal Treasury. Further economic downturning has resulted in the Bush administration attempting an economic intervention, through a requested $700,000,000,000 bailout package for Wall Street investment houses."

Agreed, so to fix it we should elect a bigger tax and spend liberal? --209.243.xx.xx

Again, this is why I'm voting Ron Paul...a conservative with a proven track record, not just hype and promises. He won't win unless the rest of ya'll get on the bandwagon.

But the average person who says they are conservative will vote for McCain because they say RP is not electable. He would be if you'd vote for him. Anyway, at least I will have a clear conscience for my vote, and I can criticize whichever one gets in office without fearing that I helped put him there.

Mama always said if you don't vote don't gripe. I say, if you don't vote for the right person (regardless of electability) you shouldn't get to gripe if you person wins. --204.80.xxx.xx

Sid, while I am a bit of a Ron Paul fan, he really is currently not electable. He isn't on enough ballots. He can't physically win. Heck, the way the electoral college works, 80% of the people in the USA could WRITE IN "Ron Paul" and he STILL wouldn't win at this point.

Now, there is an argument to vote for him even if not electable for various reasons (i.e. more support next time maybe?) -- but I understand people's concern about it and saying that "he would win if you'd vote for him" is simply incorrect. Again, we could all vote for him in November with write-ins -- he still can't win due to the way the process works if you don't make it past the primaries. Sorry. :(

Ron Paul wrote scary letters asking for money and my mother sent him some to Texas when she was from NJ. I found all the little checks and we were short of money.

If he is that despicable to defraud old ladies, why would you trust him with the entire US treasury? --76.99.xxx.xx

Disclaimer: I do not know the quoted source, Solidoak. But this doesn't make sense. The total mortgage market is about 12 trillion and F&F holding like 5.5 of that. But not all mortgages are bad. So why on earth should the F&F rescue cost that much?? It will be expensive, no doubt, but probably on a magnitude of maybe 15 less. --91.89.xxx.xxx

AllyM: Please provide some online reference so we can read about these "scary" letters and how he was defrauding old ladies.

Also, what does it matter that she sent money to Texas and she is from NJ? He was trying to run for president -- so contributions to the campaign aren't really state-specific. Or are you suggesting that Obama and McCain should only ask for donations from their home states also?
