State Specific Question About: WEST VIRGINIA (WV)

I have a duplex in Charleston, WV and I want to sell it. I am not happy with the PM (who is an RE agent as well) and the agent that is going to sell it wanted the keys. So, I called the PM and asked him for the keys. He said that his maintance guy had them and that he would charge me to get them from him. Of course, I complained about that and he said he would arrange it with the agent and the maintenance guy. And, of course, he has done nothing. Seems like there should be some kind of violation there...

Why don't you have a copy of the key!?! to send the new agent?

Yes, if the units are occupied, coordinate with current residents to get copies of their keys.

If the units are vacant, have locks changed. --205.188.xxx.xx

Say whut? It's his handyman.

What the heck is the handyman doing with the keys in his pocket? If this unit is empty. There should be a lock box on the unit with the keys in it.

"Of course, I complained about that and he said he would arrange it with the agent and the maintenance guy."

The handyman should have nothing to do with this.

It's silly. Get a lock box put the keys in it and the handyman can sleep else where.

The thought of me charging a client to get keys back from someone I gave them to makes me laugh. --64.151.xx.xxx

I would never have a rental property without my own keys for everything.

You own the building, so get your OWN keys back and personally I would give the PM his walking papers. It sounds like he thinks he owns the property. Charge you the owner for the keys. That is unheard of and very disrespectful. If he was my PM, he would be GONE.
