State Specific Question About: CONNECTICUT (CT)

I am writing to share my experience. I hired an atty. and gave a retainer. The atty. had indicated that I had funds coming back. Then in a 2nd meeting asked me for more money. The only actions that were done was serving the tenants and a security dep. letter. and a couple of calls.

Pretty much they served my non-paying tenant and they got out fast. We took the one month security and then I was still out funds from damages, rent and atty. fees.

During this case the atty. was not reachable and I had to show up in person.

So, I am demanding an accounting of where my funds went to. And, why the atty. told me I had money coming back.

This was an expensive lesson, and my advice to other's is to negotiate a flat deal, and don't pay retainers. Also hire a full service law firm with resources, not a, "one-man" shop. Or, hire a high-volume atty. that works for a complex. Or, file yourself.

I am going to file my case against my tenant in small claims since my tenants are out. --65.91.xxx.xxx

YEP!!! sounds about right.

I hired an attorney from well - known firm to serve my tenant 2 weeks ago.

I had spoke to him around 11am. Said fax them to me now. I'll look the paperwork over and we can serve them today (6-20).

I fax him the items he asks for. I wait, I wait, wait... around 4 pm I think I had better call him. Didn't want to be a pest.

I call and he says did you send the papers? YES! So he goes to find them. Said he would take care of it today. Hummmmm, okay.

He then asks for payment which I gave. I

He would fax me the papers. wait. Saturdays comes, Sunday comes....

Monday morning comes. I call him. He says they served my tenant on Saturday personally/mails a copy to. He says he faxed me the paperwork. I told him he had not. He insists. I said I have caller ID and there was not calls from his office or any unknows over the weekend. He checks and says I was right cause they didn't have my phone number. DUH!!! I gave it to him. It was on the faxed paperwork. DUH! DUH!

He made some excuse about the computer...blah, blah , blah.

I ask him about taking care of rent that will be due before their move-out date. He pro-rates it which would have been helpful if it was for the correct dates. H --72.251.xx.x

I had the same experience with an attorney over a tenant that was wasting the apartment and the yard. He was a judge prior to retiring to a practice. Stay away from judges. The seem not to like to do actual work on someone else's deadline. I accidentally hired another judge to handle Mom's estate. Same qualities only waaaay more expensive. --76.99.xxx.xx

Thanks I think this is just how it is with these guys. Further more, the atty. kept saying I had a good job, etc, and probably made more money then him!!

Well, I decided that I am sending a certified letter to he and his partner to ask for a full accounting of my funds that were used, and for a copy of my case file and the unused retainer money.

I know I won't be using these guys again anytime soon. They saw easy money on this one. And, I spent most of the time having to show up in person to answer a simple question. It wasn't right.

Really, they go to court each day and file stuff so it's not like they do anything out of the ordinary filing your papers.

It takes them minutes.
