State Specific Question About: NORTH CAROLINA (NC)

ok this is a tough one...there is this guy (28 years old) wants an apt with his stepdaughter who is 16...sounds freaky a bit? anyhow he does not make enough, and then with the girls money from her job they do. But it all started with the girl stating she was an emancipated minor. turns out she is not, they are waiting to get all her child support before they do that. Correct me if i am wrong but doesn't child support stop at 18? then the mom is basically telling me it is fine that her husband is moving in with her daughter. wait! husband? what about her living with her daughter and HUSBAND? i dont know they are just getting on my nerves. they keep coming up with different excuses and have called several times even though they were denied, stating they have her birth certificate.yeah? well i have my kid's birth certificate that doesnt mean i am going to let her live with her stepdad without me. well she is 9 but regardless, unless something happened to me, that is the only case scenario. he is 28 and the girl is 16...how old would the mom be? we asked the mom to come fill out an application and she flipped...

ok i know the answers that will be flooding in, and any help is appreciated. i know we reserve the right to accept or not but this is friggin ridiculous...concur with me! :)

thanks for letting me vent and any help would rock... --65.83.xxx.xxx

Tell them you can not verify their info and good luck on finding an apartment. You can let them know that they don't meet criteria. Why would mom fill out an app if she is not living there?Worst case, don't answer the phone-I know not the way to do business but after awhile they will get the hint. --76.98.xxx.xxx

This is a gag. Right?

Next!

Don't be such a softie. Anything other than a firm and emphatic NO will be interpreted by them as YES. Don't buy into their drama. --71.166.xx.xxx

I concur. Lying on the app alone is grounds for denial. They have lied and changed their story many times. The fact that they continue to lie shows that you still don’t have the truth and most likely never will, even if you do rent to them. This is just the tip of the iceberg with this trauma/drama.

Pass.

She can't legally sign a contract until she is 18 (at least in California) unless she is emancipated. If she does not have emancipation papers in hand then I wouldn't even discuss it with her. He does not make enough money so there is nothing more to discuss with either of them.

You are going to have to stop sounding nice on the phone. Tell them that they are not qualified and have been declined and there is nothing more you can do for them. If you don't get into a discussion with them they will eventually quit calling. --66.60.xxx.xxx

I'm right there with you Helena about it being "off"..

And why bring up the birth certificate? Maybe mom's letting daughter take her place? Weirder things have happened.. Doubtful he's the husband/ex?? or whatever..

Don't answer the phone-let it go to voicemail --74.242.xx.xx

We had a perv here locally that moved in with his stepdaughter when she was around 15. He married her later, and spent the next several years letting her support him.

You have to wonder why a mom would let her daughter end up like that instead of getting the ex locked up for many years. --141.129.x.xx
