State Specific Question About: CONNECTICUT (CT)

I have a Corporation that owes me 1800.00 in back rent. They paid the first month. Tenant left early on agreement of 3 mos.

I have thier attorney's name who is in another state, and the names of the company principals. I also have an agreement they signed.

I did rent the unit out again, but the company owes me for a month.

My attorney has been MIA. Can I send this Demand letter myself?

I wasn't sure if the wording should be basic, and just state: Rent due for Month of March 2008, as per agreement.

Unit rented out April 1, 2008.

I have had no success in dealing with thier atty. and prefer to send the Demand letter to the Principals of the company. They are a major corporation.

Thier atty. emailed me and I mentioned that they owed me for the month of March 2008. (it was a per/day rent).

There tenant did not like the unit because it wasn't in a managed complex. I am looking for the correct wording for a Demand letter.

Thanks --65.91.xxx.xxx

Manatee - It's a long story, but it was a short term 3 mos. agreement, the company drafted.

They provided an insurance policy, references, and this Letter of Credit where they gaurantee the rent, regardless in liu of security. They were to pre-pay me the entire rent. (I made a mistake on this one).

They paid first mos. and zero after. As the nitpicky tenant didn't like the unit.

I want to send a certified Demand letter to the principal's of the company. Just not sure of the wording.

My attorney is off on vacation, i've been calling him for a month, with no results.

I've given up on him and need to take care of this myself.

This company has plenty of resources to pay me. Plus, it wasn't my fault they rented my unit sight unseen. They agreed to pay, I expect the money I lost.

That was my plan. Also, I found some generic wording on line. Pretty much it says, something like this (I will take any sugguests anyone has to offer).

Notice is hereby given that we have not received your rent payment of: This amount was due and payable on ___ 2007, pursuant to the agreement dated, ____

Under the terms of your agreement (see attached) an over due rent payment in the the amount of: $1800. Please submit your past due rent immediately to the address below.

DO I need to put details in, or just only state the facts?

Out of State Corporations have to have a regitered agent in your state, legally that is who you need to send the letter of demand to...plus a CC: to the home office... --71.168.xx.xxx

You can send the letter, but a letter on the attorney letterhead might get more attention.

Get another attorney if yours isn't available.

If you do it yourself, please run it through the spell check. You misspelled "their" 3 times, and made some other small grammar errors. And a corporation is an "it" not a "they".

NOT picking on you, but an unprofessional letter is not taken seriously and you want your money. If you do it yourself, you need to sound like the big guns. --65.54.xxx.xx

That was a draft anyway. I would use spellcheck, of course.

I've been trying to locate the registered agent with no success. I know they have one, just not sure what name, as they have a parent company also.

Main company is in MA. Still, no atty. call back. this is getting ridiculous.

I won't be using that atty. again.
