State Specific Question About: INDIANA (IN)
I rented out a home on 4/1 this year and I gave the renters the phone numbers to all the utilities to have them transfered over in their name. On 4/7 I called the utility companies to verify that they had transfered, and they had not done so yet. So I called the renters and let them know that I had called all the utility companies and services would be shut off the next day if they didn't call and set up the utilities in their name. I left a V.M. and have not heard from them, so I assume they got the message and took care of it. However, I am now paying utilities on the house for the 7 days they were living in the house. Can I send them a bill for the utilities for those 7 days or should I just pay them and forget about it? --66.162.xxx.xxx |

Bill 'em and post Notice to Cure.
Evict.
NEXT TIME: don't give them the keys until you know they have the utilities transferred!

Just because they haven't answered you doesn't mean they got the message and complied. Make sure they did it by calling the util AGAIN. If not, post the Cure or Quit ASAP. Also, see if the util companies will let YOU put util in Tenants name. Some do. --140.140.xx.x |
