State Specific Question About: CONNECTICUT (CT)

Rent due on 19th, paid me 200 of $500 due today (16th) and began to complain about money issues. I followed complaining with "then this probably isn't the best time to tell you the rent's going up, is it" and he very shocked, asked how much and when I told him he yelped a whopping "WHHHAAAATTTT". I told him he has another person living upstairss with him and is this permenant or temporary....he informed me they're getting married in a few weeks.

Lets face it, I upped the rent by $100. Thats steep, yes it is. The fact he moved in the girlfriend AFTER being told no we didn't want another person in the apt and the fact at least she is smoking in the unit, a no smoking unit, and the cig. butts I have been finding I'm willing to risk loosing a tenant. Now I did tell him that I would sit down with him and he can try to negotiate the increase. It was during his shreeked "whhhaaattt" that I realized I may be able come to some agreeable term with him but I just want to let him know I am not happy with his thinking he could do as he pleases in regards to moving in someone without consent on the rental agreement.

I dont know, maybe I backed down prematurely....my husband is now pissed at me b/c I announced the increase with just a partial rental payment rec'd. I did not and will not acknowledge any payment until its complete...meaning the money stays in a clip on his file until its paid in full and then he receives a written receipt for full payment dated the day the remainder was paid.

Go ahead, sock it to me...I deserve it this time. --69.183.xxx.xxx

No socking from me. I would have started eviction already. I would not have accepted the partical payment. I may have held it like you are.

Personally I would have booted them both for the un-approved tenant and smoker to boot. At this point I would pull out all the stops and get them out as fast as possible. The longer you wait the more money you will be out.

Be kind to you first.

I do not take partial rents either. In this state they will stop any eviction. --69.118.xx.xxx

I agree, either 2 holes in the drywall or the bedroom door now has peep holes!

I agree with Tom, if I do not state a reason on the eviction, just that the rental agreement has terminated, I don't think partial rent or all rent received will cause the eviction to be ceased by the court. I'm posting another ? about the 'guest' and the eviction... --205.188.xxx.xx
