State Specific Question About: DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA (DC) This is the THIRD TIME I am attemptingto get help fromthis website.
My tenant complained three times to his noisy neighbor about the noise and "screeching" from his apartmetn at late hours. Her answer was "I like my music." The condo president said he can't do anything unless there is a record, such a hsitory of complaints to the police about it. He suggested my tetant visit othetr neighbors affected by the noise and makie a general complaint. My tenant doesn't want to get the police involved because he thinks it would jeopardize his security clearance. What shall I do? In DC, the law forbids noise above 85 decibels. He is superb tenant. --71.178.xxx.xx |

Maybe instead of just asking this over again, you could go find the post that you made previously that people already answered in?
You can try using the search feature with your name in there -- or do a subject search for "noisy" and you should find your old post.

I think I get this now. You rented out your condo or whatever or subletted and you are not the landlord for the whole building. My response was to go there and catch the perp and warn them. I have done this and I carry tools with me so the perp never gets the idea that someone reported him/her. But you are only the landlord for that one person. You can still do this for your tenant if you go over when the noise is happening and catch the person. You can report this to the police and take a tape recorder so you can document this. Hopefully it is after ten PM and the recorder has a time stamp. Actually you could use the tenant's answering machine. They have time stamps. Most towns have laws regarding noise after a certain hour. I guess it's your responsibility to call. --76.99.xxx.xx |

I have called the police , myself. Amazing, the police show up when the noise is full tilt, - somehow who called becomes a moot point as the police arethe witness, --98.16.xx.xx |

have him call cops and call again if neighbor continues to do this.u can go over at night to ck smoke detector and u can call cops too.if its late, say after 11pm.around here the perp would get cited by cops quick.and have to go to court.someone has to grow a pair. --208.58.x.xx |

I learned to use the site!Thank you all for the advice I received. In addition, I decided to visit a special division of the DC Superior Court tomorrow, for landlord and tenant matters, to ask whether I can legally follow one good suggestion that I thought of as well as heard repeated by one of the other landlords on this site: that I tape record the loud noise and call the police to complain. And that a tape recorder have a date stamp on it. --71.191.xxx.xx |
